GATE 2026 Official Notification Released
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will conduct GATE 2026. The GATE official website is gate2026.iitg.ac.in. August 25th, 2025, is the starting date for enrollment. Candidates can apply without a late fee until September 25. Those who miss the deadline can apply until October 6 with a late fee.
Purpose and Organizers of GATE
GATE 2026 is a national-level exam. It checks the candidate’s understanding of undergraduate subjects in engineering, science, humanities, architecture, and more.
You can apply for GATE if:
You are in the third year or above of your undergraduate studies.
You have finished a degree in engineering, science, architecture, technology, commerce, arts, or humanities approved by the government.
You hold a foreign degree that matches Indian standards.
You have a certificate from professional societies like IE, ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIChE, IIM, or IIIE. These certificates need to receive approval from the MoE, AICTE, UGC, or UPSC.
Subjects and New Additions in GATE 2026
GATE 2026 will have 30 test papers. This includes both full subjects and sectional ones. A new subject is introduced this year, and it is XE-I, which is energy science.
In GATE , you can attempt one or two papers. However, the second paper has to come from an approved combination. You may choose both papers within the same application form. After the declaration of results, the GATE score is valid for 3 years. This gives flexibility for applying to higher studies or public sector jobs.
Application Fee Structure for GATE 2026
You must submit only one application form. Multiple forms will be rejected. Refunds are not entertained for any mistakes made by the applicants. The fee varies for different groups and deadlines.

Marks Distribution and Exam Pattern
Each paper in GATE 2026 carries 100 marks. This includes:
15 marks for General Aptitude (GA)
85 marks for subject-specific questions
You must answer all questions in English.
