Operation Sindoor continues as India firmly rejects US mediation claims. PM Modi clarifies the military operation and reiterates India’s independent defense stance in talks with Donald Trump.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Unwavering Military Response

In a powerful diplomatic exchange, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that Operation Sindoor remains active, emphasizing India’s stance of replying to Pakistan’s provocations with determined military action. Speaking to former U.S. President Donald Trump during a scheduled phone call, PM Modi categorically denied any American role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The conversation comes in the wake of Trump’s repeated claims that Washington mediated the halt in hostilities in May.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the 35-minute phone discussion was initiated at Trump’s request after the two leaders failed to meet during the G7 Summit in Canada. India has never accepted third-party mediation, and it never will, Modi reiterated, particularly when it comes to national security issues.

No US Role in Ceasefire Talks, Clarifies Modi

The Indian Prime Minister clarified that the decision to pause hostilities was exclusively a military-to-military agreement between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both India and Pakistan. Modi made it clear that Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation for the heinous terrorist strike in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 civilians.

During this four-day military engagement from May 7 to 10, India deployed drones, missiles, and long-range artillery, targeting key militant hideouts and infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories. Modi’s statement is a strong rebuttal to Trump’s narrative, which claimed that U.S. pressure influenced the ceasefire and even threatened economic sanctions to make both sides agree.

Operation Sindoor Not Over, Says Indian Government

Despite the easing of hostilities, Modi underlined that Operation Sindoor is far from over. The operation, aimed at neutralizing terror hubs, remains a strategic mission still underway. The Indian government has never labeled the temporary pause in aggression as a formal ceasefire. Rather, it is viewed as an understanding between military leaderships—a tactical pause, not a political compromise.

Foreign Secretary Misri noted that there were no parallel discussions on trade deals or mediation during the conflict. India has consistently maintained a policy of strategic autonomy, particularly in defense matters. Trump’s portrayal of himself as a peace broker is now at odds with India’s official account.

Trump-Modi G7 Meeting Replaced with Call

At first, a bilateral meeting was scheduled to take place during the G7 Summit. However, Trump’s early return to the U.S. disrupted the schedule. As a result, the telephonic conversation became the platform for Modi to brief Trump on the full extent and intent of Operation Sindoor. This call marked their first conversation since Trump had expressed condolences after the Pahalgam attack.

During the call, Modi explained that Operation Sindoor was launched not as a standalone retaliation but as part of a broader policy shift to dismantle cross-border terrorist infrastructure. The Indian military, under clear directives, responded with calculated precision and strategic force.

India’s Stand on Sovereignty and Strategic Autonomy

By refuting any external mediation, PM Modi reiterated India’s sovereign posture and its self-reliant military doctrine. Operation Sindoor is not just a tactical mission; it symbolizes India’s refusal to outsource its security decisions. The government’s stance reinforces that any dialogue with Pakistan, whether military or diplomatic, will happen on India’s terms—and without interference from global powers.

Trump’s claims of facilitating peace now appear diplomatically inflated. Modi’s forthright communication dispels such notions and reaffirms New Delhi’s position as a decisive actor in regional stability.
